Join me for a sip & stroll around the garden 🌿 Bonus bunny chase
If you're watching this Sunday, June 9, and you're in the area, please come to my talk on creating and annual garden planting at Northwind Perennial Farm in Burlington, Wisconsin, at 10:30 a.m. today (Sunday, June 9).
Things are looking beautiful in the garden, despite this bunny that is taunting me.

Hey Erin, do you feel a bit like Mrs. Mc Gregor some mornings! My husband is a big fan of the Peter Rabbit movies! The garden is beautiful! Nothing like a fresh rain and sunshine to set the tone! My favorite is definitely the tea cup Dogwood! I have a Kousa Dogwood but I believe it’s not getting enough sun so the blossoms are sparse! We are planning to move it out about 3 feet and check the roots while we are at it! We do have some mole issues around it but don’t know if they are causing any root damage! See you next weekend! Peace and blessings!

Thank you for your insight. I love your channel. I learn so much. I have a ton of different daylilies. I used to buy the Oakes Catalog too!!! But they are a deer magnet. I hardly get any blooms. I spray weekly with Deer Stopper, Bobex, Liquid Fence, Nature's Mace - all very good products - but the deer still eat the daylilies. Unfortunately, right when they are ready to bloom. So I have been slowly giving them away or pitching them. So not worth it.

It has been hard work and a lot of learning, but I have never been happier and we get to be selective with every aspect of this property. I love it! Where are they supposed to go?? We are taking their habitats!! Farms & open land where deer lived is being developed for housing & other construction. We are going to have to learn to live together. It's not their fault!! There are ways you can protect your garden.

      1. The deer herd is unmanaged. The population has gotten out of control because natural predators were removed. What is happening to deer is not kind and I feel it’s irresponsible that agencies have not done more to manage the population in a humane way. 2. This video is all about protecting your garden.

I have had 1.coreopsis 2. lily of the valley 3. Mint 4. Lemon balm. 5. Wild violets (given to me by my husband’s aunt, he thinks she did it to get rid of it, lol, she also gave me the wild violets and lemon balm lol) 6. Bellflower…still working on trying to get rid of them 6. Parsnips. I love parsnips, but the ones I planted only get hard, dry, woody, and our soil has a lot of clay (maybe why they are so woody) so they are really hard to pull out of the ground, and they spread like weeds!! Ugh! I also battle plantain weeds (2 kinds) and creeping Charlie’s throughout our gigantic lawn. 😭and also had blackberries and raspberries that will be a forever problem as well. Yep, I’ve done just about every garden pest there is! 😟

Eren, where have you been all my life? I relate to everything you say in this video. The damned artemesia vulgaris. If you ask me the Latin name has nothing on the common name: mugwart. Does that not evoke its hunger for power and its weedy habit? It's like a monstrous specimen cultivated in Professor Sprout's classroom in the Harry Potter books. No one planted it in my garden, but it's fighting with spiderwort and vinca for total control of my long sunny northern border. I have pink campanula, which spreads like cancer right into more architecturally pleasing well-behaved perennials. Don't you think ornamental catalogs ought to be required by law to be more honest about how aggressive a plant can be? They might be willing to pass the intelligence on in code so as not to anger the growers from which they buy. For instance, how about describing the bellflower as "a good plant to pretty up a large patch of partly shaded bare ground?" Years ago I, too, amassed a collection of day llies in shades of scarlet, peach, blood orange and burgundy. Gorgeous in their way, but too loud now for my taste. I've come to find them Ugh-lee, for all the reasons you cite. And I'm in complete agreement about potentilla. Mine is herbaceous specimen, not a shrub, but it isn't thriving and as you say, the flowers are small compared to other things that love living together in my small, front-yard circle garden.

Bunnies are one thing (bad news), but baby bunnies are the worst because they don't know what they like to eat yet. So!! They sample EVERYTHING and spit out nine out of ten things. You wander your garden and find many stalks of plants chomped off at baby bunny level, one inch from the ground! Grrrr! So then you start experimenting to see what will root in water, which is many plants. Its all just an amazing adventure, isn't it, Erin? Keep on being real with us, we love you for it ❤ The garden is so lush and abundant this year, like never before. And everyone everywhere is saying the same thing. Are the plants responding to climate instability by growing and reproducing like crazy to assure survival? My 10 cents worth...
